The world’s No. 1 ranked golfer, Scottie Scheffler, continued his on-course dominance at this week’s Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta. He finished 30-under to win the year-end event and a $25 million bonus for capturing the FedEx Cup playoffs.
Collin Morikawa (26-under) and Sahith Theegala (24-under) finished second and third and pocketed $12.5 million and $7.5 million of the $100 million bonus pool, $82.95 million of which was up for grabs for the 30 players who qualified for the Tour Championship and the remaining $17.05 million for the other 120 players in the FedEx standings.
Scheffler was the No. 1 seed in the FedEx Cup, which meant he started the Tour Championship with a two-shot lead based on the event’s unique format that rewards the leaders in the playoff standings ahead of the start of play. This was the third straight year he was the top seed but first time he finished the weekend holding the trophy.
Scheffler’s win caps a monster 2024 season that included seven Tour wins, including his second green jacket at the Masters, plus an Olympic gold medal in Paris. He had five other top five finishes and made the cut in all 19 Tour events. He has been the world’s top-ranked golfer for 67 straight weeks and 102 weeks overall, which ranks fifth all time.
In 2024, Scheffler has earned $29.2 million in prize money, shattering the record he established last year. He also pocketed a pair of bonuses: $25 million for the FedEx playoffs and $8 million as the leader in the Comcast Business Tour Top 10. He’s earned $62.2 million in total this year, and he’s not done. At the end of the year, the PGA will pay out its $50 million Player Impact Program with the winner’s share at $10 million. It could push Sheffler above $70 million on the course, plus more than $20 million from endorsements.
The other top-earning PGA Tour golfers in 2024 are more than 50% behind Scheffler, including prize money and bonuses, with Xander Schauffele ($29.3 million), Morikawa ($25.3 million) and Rory McIlroy ($19.2 million).
The winner’s share of the FedEx Cup was $10 million until it jumped to $15 million in 2019 and then $18 million in 2022. Viktor Hovland earned $18 million last year for his title.
Scheffler has earned $35.7 million in career FedEx bonuses, which are not included in official prize money. The leader all time is McIlroy at $55.7 million. Tiger Woods ranks third all time at $28.6 million.
Story has been updated in the headline and fifth paragraph to reflect Scheffler’s correct 2024 prize money.
