Breanna Stewart added another record to her illustrious career last month.
The New York Liberty star and two-time WNBA champion took another step toward fulfilling her goal of being the best to ever play the game, becoming the fastest player to score 5,000 career points in WNBA history. The reigning league MVP spoke about what fuels her basketball motivation as well as her business ventures off the court on the newest episode of Sportico’s Business Beyond the Game.
This list of ventures includes Unrivaled, a new 3-on-3, full-court style women’s basketball league founded by Stewart and Minnesota Lynx forward Napheesa Collier. All 30 participating players in the nation’s newest women’s pro basketball league will receive equity and more than $100,000 each to compete. The Miami-based league, which is launching in January during the WNBA offseason, has received backing from notable sports media executives such as former ESPN president John Skipper and star athletes including U.S. women’s soccer legend Alex Morgan.
Stewart, who recently released her third signature shoe with Puma (Stewie 3), has continued to build out her off-the-court portfolio. The Syracuse, N.Y., native has no plans to retire anytime soon but has begun pondering one day leading a WNBA franchise as a team president or executive in basketball operations.
