Even before his first NBA game, Jamal Mashburn was planning his exit from the league.
The former NBA All-Star and college All-American at Kentucky says he adopted the mindset early in his playing career that he wasn’t going to join the ranks of NBA players who struggle financially once they retire from the league. The savvy entrepreneur has since gone on to own dozens of chain restaurants including Outback Steakhouses, Papa John’s and Dunkin’ Donuts.
Mashburn, who also owns six Toyota and Lexus car dealerships nationwide, joined Business Beyond the Game to discuss the transition after his playing career, his pursuit to own an ownership stake in an NBA team and spreading awareness for colon cancer.
