Netflix is expanding its NFL universe with a new project in conjunction with NFL Films.
The streamer will air Receiver, which will follow five of the league’s best and up-and-coming pass catchers over eight 45-minute episodes. A natural follow-up to last year’s hit series Quarterback, this new docuseries will profile the players who are most often on the other end of every throw in an NFL game.
Featured in the new series will be San Francisco 49ers teammates George Kittle and Deebo Samuel, Las Vegas Raiders’ Davante Adams, Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson and Detroit Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown.
The series, set to debut this summer, is being produced by NFL Films along with Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and 2PM Productions from Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“As we did with Quarterback, we look forward to telling the stories of five incredible receivers, each with their unique personality, skillset and motivation for what drives them to be the best,” Manning said in a statement.
Manning, of course, knows the importance of having great pass catchers, after playing alongside fellow Hall of Famer Marvin Harrison, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark and many others throughout his career in Indianapolis and Denver.
While its recent forays into live sports events have gotten attention, Netflix continues to grow its sports documentary library beyond Quarterback and its famed Drive to Survive. NASCAR: Full Speed; Full Swing (golf); Six Nations: Full Contact (rugby) and more look at the games that enthrall the masses. However, the streamer recently axed one of its recent projects, the tennis-themed Break Point, after two seasons in early March due to low viewership and complications with gaining full access to players.
