Peter Vanderkaay mentally still believes he can compete against the world’s best, even though the former Olympic swimmer knows he’s past his physical prime.
Vanderkaay, who won four Olympic medals over three Games, says his career in competitive swimming has only been additive to his current life as a family man and principal at commercial real estate firm Signature Associates. He encourages other former athletes to leverage some of those transferrable skills gained during their athletic peak, such as goal-setting, to help them find success after retiring from their sport.
Vanderkaay joined Business Beyond the Game to discuss the upcoming Paris Summer Olympics, the rise of athlete-driven content across Olympic sports and how swimmers should have better NIL sponsorship opportunities while they’re competing in the Olympics.
